The first signs of spring can bring us a sense of renewal, a feeling of lightness and potential for growth. In the ancient Indian tradition of Ayurveda, springtime is an especially auspicious time to assess our health and habits with new eyes. The spring equinox marks the beginning of the new season - an opportunity to start anew and create positive changes in our lives.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a holistic healing system that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. It focuses on physical and mental balance through nutrition, lifestyle practices, herbal medicine, massage therapy, meditation, yoga, and other holistic treatments. According to this system of healing, everything in the universe is interconnected and has its own intelligence. Thus, we are encouraged to pay attention to how our environment affects us and how we affect our environment.
New Beginnings
During the ayurvedic spring equinox (Vasanta Ritu), we have the opportunity to reset our lives and create positive habits that will help us achieve balance throughout the year. We can use this time as an opportunity to practice self-care rituals such as eating healthy meals that focus on seasonal foods; doing yoga or meditation; taking long walks outdoors; or getting enough sleep each night. We can also use this time to set intentions for ourselves by writing down what it is we want to accomplish during the upcoming months.
By focusing on setting attainable goals for ourselves during this time of renewal, we can ensure that we stay focused throughout the rest of the year. Additionally, these goals don’t necessarily have to be related solely to physical health - they could be anything from learning a new skill or language to spending more quality time with friends and family members.
Restore Emotional Well-Being
